Bulletin Board Instructions



Purpose

The purpose of this Bulletin Board is to keep the members of Trinity Lutheran informed of current events relating to church activities. If you have access to the Internet you can keep abreast of what is happening and you can post information concerning events you may be sponsoring.

When activated the Bulletin Board displays links to all the Posted Messages. Links for Posting a Message or Removing Messages appear below the link to the last Posted Message. Use them to add new messages or delete old ones. Note: Posting and Removing messages requires entry of a password. To obtain the password see Posting Authorization. Reading the messages does not require the password.

Posted Messages

You can select and read any of the Messages Posted to the website. The messages are listed by subject. Double clicking on the subject will display a window with all the information pertinent to that subject. After reading or viewing the message, you have the option of adding a follow-up message to that subject. Entry of a follow-up message is done in the window displaying the original or subsequent follow-up message. The procedure for entering a follow-up message is the same as that listed for Posting Messages.

Posting Messages

Double clicking on the Posting a Message link activates the Entry Form to be used to post the information you wish to convey to other members of the congregation. The form contains eight entry fields. Four are required, the remainder are optional.

Required entries include: The Password authorizes posting messages to the bulletin board. The Name of the person posting the message. Subject of the message to be posted, and the Message itself.

Attempting to post a message without specifying all four of the above fields will activate a form prompting for the missing field's data. The Name and Subject must be plain text. The Message can be in plain text, or if you prefer it can be in Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)code.

The remaining entries E-mail , Site URL/Site Title, and Image URL are optional. A brief description of their function follows:

E-mail: Use this field if you wish an e-mail response to your posted message. Simply enter your e-mail address.

Site URL: Use this field in conjunction with Site Title if you want other members of the congregation to visit a particular web site.

Simply enter the full URL for the web site.

Site Title: Use this field in conjunction with Site URL if you entered a Site URL. Simply enter a brief description of the subject of the web site referenced by the Site URL. If the associated title for the URL is not specified, the URL will be ignored.

Image URL: Use this field if you wish to display an image with your posting. Simply entry the full URL of the image you want to display.

Note: URL (Universal Resource Locator) entries Site and Image, require the full web address. However, the prefixed http:// is optional.

At the bottom of the Bulletin Board Form are two command buttons associated with Posting Messages: Post Message and Reset

Click on the command Post Message to have your message placed on the Bulletin Board web page or click on the command Reset to erase your entry and start over.

Clicking Post Message will display a window informing you that your message has been added to the Bulletin Board web. At this point you have the option of viewing your information as other users will see it or simply returning to the web page that linked to the Bulletin Board. Viewing the information as other users will see it also gives you the option of posting a follow-up message should you feel a need to do so.

Removing Messages

If you would like to have a message you posted removed from the Bulletin Board web, send an email to this link webmaster specifying your name, the date the message was posted, and Message's Subject. If the intent is to remove follow up messages be specific has to which follow ups to remove.

Posting Authorization

Unfortunately there are many evil people who take delight in posting despicable information on church bulletin boards. Left unprotected the bulletin board would soon be overrun with obscene messages, links to pornographic sites, as well as pornographic pictures. To eliminate this problem the Trinity Lutheran Church (TLC) in Scottsboro, Alabama requires entry of a password before posting is permitted.

If you are a member of Trinity Lutheran and would like access to posting on the TLC web site, contact a member of the Church Council for the password. If you are not a member of Trinity Lutheran but have information you would like to share, send the information via email to us.
